Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
You, who have wrapped yourself up with a mantle, 1 Stand up for worship during the night, except for some part of it. 2 half of it, or reduce it a little; 3 or add to it [at will]; and [during that time] recite the Qur'an calmly and distinctly, with thy mind attuned to its meaning. 4 Indeed We shall soon ordain a heavy responsibility upon you. 5 Lo! the vigil of the night is (a time) when impression is more keen and speech more certain. 6 True, there is for thee by day prolonged occupation with ordinary duties: 7 So remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with exclusive devotion. 8 He is the Lord of the East and the West; there is no god except Him. Take Him for your Guardian. 9 Bear with patience what they say, and gracefully come away from them. 10 And leave Me and the rejecters, the possessors of ease and plenty, and respite them a little. 11 Surely with Us are heavy fetters and a flaming fire, 12 food that chokes and painful punishment 13 On the Day when the earth and the mountains will be in violent shake, and the mountains will be a heap of sand poured out and flowing down. 14 We have indeed sent a Noble Messenger towards you, a present witness over you – the way We had sent a Noble Messenger towards Firaun. 15 but Pharaoh rebelled against the Messenger, so We seized him remorselessly. 16 So how will you save yourselves, if you disbelieve, on a day that will turn children old? 17 Whereon the sky will be cleft asunder? His Promise needs must be accomplished. 18 Lo! This is a Reminder. Let him who will, then, choose a way unto his Lord. 19
