Now, behold, this [divine writ] has indeed been bestowed from on high by the Sustainer of all the worlds: 192 trustworthy divine inspiration has alighted with it from on high 193 Upon your heart, [O Muhammad] - that you may be of the warners - 194 in a clear, Arabic tongue. 195 And lo! it is in the Scriptures of the men of old. 196 Is it not evidence enough for them that the learned among the Children of Israel have recognized this [as true]? 197 And even if We had revealed it to one among the foreigners 198 and he had recited it to them, they would not have believed. 199 In this wise have We made way for it into the hearts of the culprits. 200 They will not believe in it until they suffer the painful torment. 201 And it will come to them suddenly while they perceive [it] not. 202 Then they will say: are we to be respited? 203 Do they wish Us then to hasten the punishment? 204 Do you not see that even if We give them respite for years 205 And then the promise that is given to them, does come upon them- 206 That which they were made to enjoy shall not avail them? 207 And We did not destroy any city except that it had warners 208 to admonish them. We have never been unjust. 209 It was not the satans who brought it down: 210 They are not worthy of it, nor have they power. 211 Indeed they are debarred from even hearing it. 212 So call not upon another god with Allah, lest you be of those who are punished. 213 And warn thy tribe of near kindred, 214 And lower thy wing (in kindness) unto those believers who follow thee. 215 So if they do not obey you, then say, “Indeed I am unconcerned with what you do.” 216 And rely upon (Allah) the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 217 Who seeth thee when thou standest up (to pray) 218 and when thou turnest about among those who bow. 219 He is all-hearing and all-knowing. 220 Shall I inform you (O people!) upon whom the Shayatin (devils) descend? 221 They descend on every guilty impostor. 222 They listen, but most of them are liars. 223 And the astray follow the poets. 224 See you not that they speak about every subject (praising others right or wrong) in their poetry? 225 And that they say what they do not do. 226 Except those who believe, work righteousness, engage much in the remembrance of Allah, and defend themselves only after they are unjustly attacked. And soon will the unjust assailants know what vicissitudes their affairs will take! 227
