EXHORT, then, [O Prophet, all men:] for, by thy Sustainer's grace, thou art neither a soothsayer nor a madman. 29 Or do they say: "[He is but] a poet - let us wait what time will do unto him"? 30 Say, "Wait, I too am waiting with you". 31 Is this what their senses tell them, or are they a rebellious people? 32 Or do they say: He has forged it. Nay! they do not believe. 33 Let them produce a phrase like it, if what they say is true! 34 Have they not been created from some source, or are they themselves the creators? 35 Created they the heavens and the earth! Aye! they will not be convinced. 36 Or are the Treasures of thy Lord with them, or are they the managers (of affairs)? 37 Or have they a stairway (to heaven), by means of which they listen (to the talks of the angels)? Then let their listener produce some manifest proof. 38 Do the daughters belong to Him and the sons to you? 39 Do you (Muhammad) ask them for any payment (for your preaching) which they cannot afford? 40 Or that the Unseen in it their hands, and they write it down? 41 Or do they intend a plan? But those who disbelieve - they are the object of a plan. 42 Or have they a god other than Allah? Glory be to Allah from what they set up (with Him). 43 If they should see a part of the heavens falling down, they would say, "A mass of clouds," 44 Leave them then till they meet that day of theirs wherein they shall be made to swoon (with terror): 45 A day in which their guile will naught avail them, nor will they be helped. 46 And verily, for those who do wrong, there is a punishment beyond that. But most of them know not. 47 Be patient, then, (O Prophet), until the judgement of your Lord comes. For surely you are before Our eyes. And celebrate the praise of your Lord when you rise, 48 and also celebrate His praise at night, and at the retreat of the stars. 49
