Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the dawn 1 And [by] ten nights 2 by the even, and the odd, 3 And [by] the night when it passes, 4 There surely is an oath for thinking man. 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with Ad, 6 (The people of) Aram, possessors of lofty buildings, 7 The likes of whom had never been created in the land? 8 And how did He deal with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the valley? 9 And (with) Firon, the lord of hosts, 10 Who did transgress beyond bounds in the lands (in the disobedience of Allah). 11 and brought about great corruption therein: 12 and therefore thy Sustainer let loose upon them a scourge of suffering: 13 indeed, your Lord is ever watchful. 14 As for man, whenever his Lord trieth him by honouring him, and is gracious unto him, he saith: My Lord honoureth me. 15 But when He tests him by restricting his provision, he says: 'My Lord has humiliated me' 16 No indeed, but you show no kindness to the orphan, 17 and you do not urge one another to feed the needy, 18 and greedily devour the entire inheritance, 19 And love wealth with all your heart. 20 Nay, but when the earth is ground to atoms, grinding, grinding, 21 and when your Lord appears with rows upon rows of angels, 22 and when Hell is brought near that Day. On that Day will man understand, but of what avail will that understanding be? 23 He will say, "Oh, I wish I had sent ahead [some good] for my life." 24 So on that Day, none will punish [as severely] as His punishment, 25 And no one binds like He does! 26 O thou peaceful soul! 27 Return to your Lord well-pleased (with your blissful destination), well-pleasing (to your Lord). 28 Enter thou among My bondmen! 29 Enter thou My Paradise!' 30
