The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the night when it envelopeth, 1 And the day resplendent 2 and by the creation of the male and the female. 3 Indeed your efforts differ. 4 So he who gives (in charity) and fears (Allah), 5 And testifieth to the Good, 6 Surely We will ease his way unto the state of ease. 7 But as for him who is a miser, and self-sufficient, 8 and denied the Truth of goodness: 9 We will make smooth for him the path for evil; 10 And what will his wealth avail him when he falls? 11 Verify on us is the guidance 12 And truly, unto Us (belong) the last (Hereafter) and the first (this world). 13 Wherefore I have warned you of Fire flaming, 14 None will [enter to] burn therein except the most wretched one. 15 Who give the lie to Truth and turn their backs. 16 The pious ones will be safe from this fire 17 one who gives his wealth to become purified, 18 And have in their minds no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return, 19 But only seeking the countenance of his Lord, Most High. 20 surely, he shall be satisfied. 21
