Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the dawn; 1 and the ten nights, 2 And [by] the even [number] and the odd 3 And [by] the night when it passes, 4 Is there (not) in these an adjuration (or evidence) for those who understand? 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with 'Aad - 6 Of the (city of) Iram, with lofty pillars, 7 The like of which were not created in the land? 8 (Also consider how He dealt with) the Thamud, who carved their houses out of the rocks in the valley. 9 and with Pharaoh of the [many] tent-poles? 10 [All of] whom oppressed within the lands 11 And multiplied corruption. 12 Therefore thy Lord poured on them the disaster of His punishment. 13 Indeed nothing is hidden from the sight of your Lord. 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him and [thus] is generous to him and favors him, he says, "My Lord has honored me." 15 But when he tries him and stints for him his provision, then he says, 'My Lord has despised me.' 16 No! But you do not honor the orphan 17 Nor urge upon each other the feeding of the poor, 18 And you devour inheritance all with greed, 19 And ye love riches with exceeding love. 20 Nay, but when the earth is ground to atoms, grinding, grinding, 21 and when your Lord appears with rows upon rows of angels, 22 And Hell, that Day, is brought (face to face),- on that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance profit him? 23 He will say: Ah, would that I had sent before me (some provision) for my life! 24 So on that Day, none will punish as He will punish. 25 And none will bind as He will bind. 26 O satisfied soul, 27 Return thou unto thy Sustainer, well-pleased [and] pleasing [Him]: 28 Join My servants. 29 Enter thou My Garden! 30
