A large group from the earlier generations. 39 And a large group from the latter. 40 But those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) those of the left hand -- 41 They will be in the midst of scorching wind and boiling water, 42 And shadow of black smoke, 43 Which is neither cool nor is for respect. 44 Lo! heretofore they were effete with luxury 45 and persisted in the Great Sin, 46 ever saying, 'What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we indeed be raised up? 47 And also our forefathers?" 48 Say: 'Those of ancient times and those of later times 49 Are to be gathered together for the appointment of a known Day." 50 Then lo! ye, the erring, the deniers, 51 "You verily will eat of the trees of Zaqqum. 52 And shall fill therewith your bellies. 53 and will thereupon have to drink [many a draught] of burning despair 54 and you will drink as the lapping of thirsty camels. 55 This is their reception on the Day of Justice. 56 We have created you, why do you not then assent? 57 Have you seen that which you emit? 58 Did you create it, or are We the Creator? 59 It is We Who have ordained death among you, and We have not been beaten – 60 In order that We may bring in your place the likes of you and make you grow into what you know not. 61 And ye certainly know already the first form of creation: why then do ye not celebrate His praises? 62 Have ye seen that which ye cultivate? 63 Is it you who cause it to grow - or are We the cause of its growth? 64 If We willed, surely We would make it chaff, so that ye would be left wondering. 65 (Saying:) 'We are laden with debts! 66 Rather, we have been prevented' 67 Have you considered the water which you drink? 68 Is it you who sent it down from the clouds or is it We who have sent it down? 69 If We willed, surely We would make it brackish. Wherefore give ye not thanks? 70 Have you considered the fire which you strike? 71 Produce ye the tree thereof, or are We the Producer? 72 It is We who have made it a means to remind [you of Us,] and a comfort for all who are lost and hungry in the wilderness [of their lives]. 73 Therefor (O Muhammad), praise the name of thy Lord, the Tremendous. 74
