The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O YOU ENFOLDED in your mantle (of reform), 1 stand up, deliver your warning, 2 proclaim the greatness of your Lord, 3 thy robes purify 4 And uncleanliness avoid 5 Nor expect, in giving, any increase (for thyself)! 6 For the sake of thy Lord, be patient! 7 For when the trumpet blows 8 So that is a tough day. 9 For the infidels, not easy. 10 Leave him to Me, the one whom I created single. 11 And gave him abundant wealth 12 and sons that stand in witness. 13 And for whom I smoothed everything. 14 then he is eager that I should do more. 15 Never! For he is an enemy to Our signs! 16 Anon I shall afflict him with a fearful woe. 17 Lo! He reflected, and determined -- 18 Ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 19 Again accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 20 Then he looked round; 21 frowned and scowled; 22 Then he turned away, and was haughty. 23 and said, "This is nothing but sorcery from the ancients. 24 This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 Anon shall I roast him into the Scorching Fire. 26 Would that you really knew what hell is! 27 It leaves and spares no one and nothing. 28 It shrivelleth the man. 29 Over it are nineteen. 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
