He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 So you are after him! 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 and who has fear of God, 9 You neglect. 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance. 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 Exalted and purified, 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 noble and pious. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 Olives and dates, 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 and fruits and fodder 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 And from his mother and father, 35 and his consort and his children; 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 on that Day some faces will be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
