The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
CONSIDER the sun and its radiant brightness, 1 by the moon when it follows the sun, 2 by the day when it brightens the earth, 3 By the Night as it conceals it; 4 And the heaven and Him Who built it, 5 and by the earth and That which extended it! 6 and by the soul and that (Power) which designed it 7 And inspired it with the wickedness thereof and the piety thereof, 8 prosperous is he who purified it, 9 And miserable is he who hath buried it. 10 The tribe of Thamud denied with rebellion. 11 when the most wretched of them uprose, 12 Then Allah's Messenger warned them: “Hands off the she-camel and her drink!” 13 However, they rejected him and slew her. So their Lord completely destroyed them and their city for their sins. 14 He does not fear the consequence. 15
