The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Recite thou in the name of thy Lord Who hath created 1 Createth man from a clot. 2 Read - for thy Sustainer is the Most Bountiful One 3 who has taught [man] the use of the pen 4 Taught man what he did not know. 5 By no means: Verily man exorbitateth. 6 That he thinketh himself independent! 7 Indeed towards your Lord only is the return. 8 Have you seen the one who forbids 9 A votary when he (turns) to pray? 10 Have you thought, if he had been on guidance 11 Or enjoineth piety? 12 What do you think? Have you seen if he belies and turns away, 13 Does he not know that God sees? 14 No indeed; surely, if he gives not over, We shall seize him by the forelock, 15 By the lying, the sinful forelock. 16 Then let him summon his council, 17 We will call the angels of Hell. 18 By no means! Obey not thou him. Continue to adore, and continue to draw nigh. ۩ 19
