In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O you (Prophet Muhammad) wrapped, 1 rise (to pray) the night except a little; 2 Half of it, or lessen it a little, 3 Or increase thereto. And intone the Qur'an with measured intonations. 4 Behold, We shall bestow upon thee a weighty message 5 Lo! the vigil of the night is (a time) when impression is more keen and speech more certain. 6 During the day, you are preoccupied with many activities. 7 And remember the Name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with a complete devotion. 8 He is the Lord of the East and the West; there is no god but He. So take Him alone for your Guardian, 9 And bear thou with patience whatsoever they say, and depart from them with a becoming departure. 10 And leave Me and the rejecters, the possessors of ease and plenty, and respite them a little. 11 for, behold, heavy fetters [await them] with Us, and a blazing fire, 12 and a food that chokes, and a grievous chastisement. 13 upon the day when the earth and the mountains shall quake and the mountains become a slipping heap of sand. 14 Surely We have sent unto you a Messenger as a witness over you, even as We sent to Pharaoh a Messenger, 15 But Pharaoh disobeyed Our Messenger, so We seized him with a terrible seizing. 16 Then how shall ye, if ye deny (Allah), guard yourselves against a Day that will make children hoary-headed?- 17 The Day when the heavens will be rent asunder and God's promise shall be fulfilled. 18 This, surely, is an admonition. So let him who will, take the right path to his Lord. 19
