He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 upon highly honored pages, 13 exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble and purified. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 and then We cleaved the earth asunder. 26 And We made corn grow, 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). 37 Some faces will shine, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 And many a face will be covered with dust on that day. 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! 42
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
