S (Saad)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Sad. By the renowned Qur'an, 1 nay, but the unbelievers glory in their schism. 2 How many generations We have destroyed before them! And they cried out when it was too late to escape. 3 And they marvel that there should come unto them a warner from among themselves. And the infidels say: this is a magician and a liar! 4 Has he turned so many gods into one deity? This is indeed a strange thing!" 5 And the chief persons of them break forth, saying: Go and steadily adhere to your gods; this is most surely a thing sought after. 6 "We never heard (the like) of this among the people of these latter days: this is nothing but a made-up tale!" 7 Can it be that he alone has received the Quran?" In fact, they have doubts about My Quran and this is because they have not yet faced (My) torment. 8 Do they possess the treasures of your Lord, the Most Mighty, the Great Bestower? 9 Or [that] the dominion over the heavens and the earth and all that is between them is theirs? Why, then, let them try to ascend [to God-like power] by all [conceivable] means! 10 A host of deserters of the allies shall be here put to flight. 11 The folk of Noah before them denied (their messenger) and (so did the tribe of) A'ad, and Pharaoh firmly planted, 12 and [the tribe of] Thamud, and the people of Lot, and the dwellers of the wooded dales [of Madyan]: they all were leagued together, [as it were, in their unbelief:] 13 None of them was such that it did not deny the Noble Messengers, therefore My punishment became inevitable. 14
