The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
A questioner questioned concerning the doom about to fall 1 To the disbelievers; of it there is no preventer. 2 from punishing them. He is the Lord of the Ascending Stairways, 3 To Him the angels and the Spirit (Gabriel) ascend in a day, the measure of which is fifty thousand years. 4 So be patient (O Muhammad SAW), with a good patience. 5 Verily! They see it (the torment) afar off, 6 While we behold it nigh: 7 On the Day the sky will be like murky oil, 8 And the mountains will be like wool, 9 And no friend will ask [anything of] a friend, 10 They will be shown each other. The criminal will wish that he could be ransomed from the punishment of that Day by his children 11 his wife, his brother, 12 And his kin that sheltered him. 13 and all persons of the earth, if only he could thus save himself. 14 By no means! for it would be the Fire of Hell!- 15 stripping away his skin, 16 Inviting (all) such as turn their backs and turn away their faces (from the Right). 17 Who amasses and then hoards. 18 ۞ Verily man is formed impatient. 19 When evil comes upon him he is impatient; 20 And niggardly when good touches him; 21 But not so the worshippers 22 Who persevere in devotion, 23 who, from their wealth is a known right 24 For the beggar who asks, and for the unlucky who has lost his property and wealth, (and his means of living has been straitened); 25 And those who believe in the Day of Judgement, 26 and who stand in dread of their Sustainer's chastisement 27 For their Lord's displeasure is the opposite of Peace and Tranquillity;- 28 and guard their private parts 29 Save in regard to their spouses or those whom their right hands own; so verily they are not blameworthy 30 but whoever goes beyond this is a transgressor; 31 And those who keep their pledges and their covenant, 32 And those who stand firm in their testimonies. 33 And those who guard their Salat (prayers) well. 34 These it is who in the gardens [of paradise] shall be honoured! 35
