He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 Yet you pay attention 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 Nay, but [man] has never yet fulfilled what He has enjoined upon him! 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 and let the earth to break open 26 And produce therein corn, 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 and olives and palms, 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 and fruits and fodder 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 mother, father, 35 his consort, his sons, 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
