So when the envoys came to the household of Lot, 61 he said, 'Surely you are a people unknown to me!' 62 "We have come to you with news," they said, "of what your people doubt; 63 and we are bringing thee the certainty [of its fulfilment]: for, behold, we are speaking the truth indeed. 64 So travel with thy household in a portion of the night, and follow thou their backs. Let none of you turn round, but go whither ye are commanded. 65 And We conveyed to him [the decree] of that matter: that those [sinners] would be eliminated by early morning. 66 And the people of the town came rejoicing. 67 He said: verily these are my guests, so disgrace me not. 68 "But fear Allah, and shame me not." 69 They said: "Did we not forbid thee (to speak) for all and sundry?" 70 He said, “These women of our tribe are my daughters, if you have to.” 71 By your life, (O Prophet), they went about blindly stumbling in their intoxication. 72 Then the shout took hold of them at the sunrise. 73 And We made the highest part [of the city] its lowest and rained upon them stones of hard clay. 74 Verily therein are signs for men of sagacity. 75 And verily they are on a pathway lasting. 76 surely in that is a sign for believers. 77 And the dwellers of the wood surely were wrong-doers. 78 On them, too, We took vengeance, and they are both on a clear roadway. 79
