Ad gave the lie to the apostles. 123 When their fellowman Hud said to them, “Do you not fear?” 124 Behold, I am an apostle [sent by Him] to you, [and therefore] worthy of your trust: 125 so fear you God, and obey you me. 126 And I ask of you no hire therefor: my hire is but with the Lord of the worlds. 127 What, you build a monument on every hill merely for fun 128 Erect palaces (thinking) that you will live for ever, 129 When you lay hands upon anyone, you do so as tyrants. 130 Have fear of God and obey me. 131 Have fear of Him Who has provided you with all the (good) things you know; 132 He has given you flocks and sons, 133 and gardens, and springs -- 134 'Indeed, I fear for you the chastisement of a dreadful day.' 135 They said: it is equal unto us whether thou admonishest or art not of the admonishers. 136 This is naught but a custom of the ancients; 137 We will not be subjected to any chastisement." 138 Eventually they gave the lie to him and We destroyed them. Surely there is a Sign in this, but most of them would not believe. 139 And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful. 140
