Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Ha, Meem. 1 By oath of this clear Book. 2 We sent it down during a Blessed Night: for We (ever) wish to warn (against Evil). 3 (We revealed it on the Night) wherein every matter is wisely determined 4 [Every] matter [proceeding] from Us. Indeed, We were to send [a messenger] 5 in pursuance of thy Sustainer's grace [unto man]. Verily, He alone is all-hearing, all-knowing, 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all between them, if ye (but) have an assured faith. 7 there is no deity save Him: It is He who gives both life and death -- He is your Lord, and the Lord of your forefathers, 8 Rather they are in doubt, playing. 9 Wait, then, for the Day when the sky brings forth plainly visible clouds of smoke. 10 Covering the people, this shall be a torment afflictive. 11 Then they will say, "Lord, relieve us from this torment, for truly we are now believers in You." 12 [But] how shall this remembrance avail them [at the Last Hour,] seeing that an apostle had previously come unto them, clearly expounding the truth, 13 And they had turned away from him and said: One taught (by others), a madman? 14 Yet We will hold the scourge back for a while, (but no sooner than We will do so) you will revert to your old ways. 15 On the day when We shall seize them with the greater seizure, (then) in truth We shall punish. 16 ۞ Already before them We tried the people of Pharaoh, and a noble Messenger came unto them, 17 "Give in unto me, O God's bondmen! Verily, I am an apostle [sent] unto you, worthy of trust! 18 "And exalt not (yourselves) against Allah. Truly, I have come to you with a manifest authority. 19 And surely I take refuge with my Lord and your Lord that you should stone me to death: 20 And if you do not believe me, [at least] stand away from me!" 21 Then he cried out to his Lord, "These are sinful people." 22 'Then set thou forth with My servants in a watch of the night; surely you will be followed. 23 And leave the sea intervening; surely they are a host that shall be drowned. 24 How many gardens and fountains they left behind them, 25 and cornfields and splendid buildings, 26 and the life of ease in which they took delight! 27 Even so; and We bequeathed them upon another people. 28 And the heavens and the earth wept not over them, nor were they respited. 29
