The Moon (Al-Qamar)
55 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Comet (Al-Taareq) before S (Saad)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
The Hour of Doom is drawing near and the moon is rent asunder. 1 But if they [who reject all thought of the Last Hour] were to see a sign [of its approach,] they would turn aside and say: "An ever-recurring delusion!" 2 They belied (the Verses of Allah, this Quran), and followed their own lusts. And every matter will be settled [according to the kind of deeds (for the doer of good deeds, his deeds will take him to Paradise, and similarly evil deeds will take their doers to Hell)]. 3 And there have come to them such tidings as contain a deterrent -- 4 far-reaching wisdom [was held out to them]: but [since] all warnings have been of no avail, 5 So leave them, [O Muhammad]. The Day the Caller calls to something forbidding, 6 They will come forth, with humbled eyes from (their) graves as if they were locusts spread abroad, 7 Hastening toward the summoner; the disbelievers say: This is a hard day. 8 ۞ (Long) before them the nation of Noah belied. They belied Our worshiper saying: 'Mad' and he was reprimanded. 9 Noah prayed, "Lord, help me; I am defeated". 10 So We opened the gates of heaven with water pouring forth. 11 And We caused the earth to gush forth with springs, so the waters met (and rose) to the extent decreed. 12 We bore him on an [ark] which, made of planks and nails, 13 Floating under Our Eyes, a reward for him who had been rejected! 14 And We left it as a sign, so is there any who will remember? 15 How terrible then was My punishment and My warning. 16 And We have indeed made the Qur'an easy to understand and remember: then is there any that will receive admonition? 17 Aad too belied. How then were My punishment and My warnings! 18 Indeed, We sent upon them a screaming wind on a day of continuous misfortune, 19 Which snatched away men as though they were palm trees pulled out by the roots. 20 Then, how (terrible) was My Torment and My Warnings? 21 We have made it easy to learn lessons from the Quran: is there anyone who would receive admonition? 22
