The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the star when it setteth. 1 your companion has neither strayed nor is he deluded; 2 and neither does he speak out of his own desire: 3 This is only revelation communicated, 4 He was taught by [an angel] who is mighty in power, 5 Of might, he (Gabriel) stood firm 6 When he was on the uppermost horizon. 7 then drew near and suspended hung, 8 until he was two bows' length away, or nearer. 9 And he revealed to His Servant what he revealed. 10 His heart added no untruth to what he saw. 11 What, will you dispute with him about what he sees! 12 Indeed, he saw him another time 13 Nigh unto the lote-tree at the boundary. 14 near which is Paradise. 15 When that which shroudeth did enshroud the lote-tree, 16 (Muhammad's) eyes did not deceive him, nor did they lead him to falsehood. 17 truly did he see some of the most profound of his Sustainer's symbols. 18 So did you observe the idols Lat and Uzza? 19 and the third one, Manat? -- 20 Why - for yourselves [you would choose only] male offspring, whereas to Him [you assign] female: 21 That were indeed an unjust division. 22 They are but names which you have named, you and your fathers, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow but a guess and that which they themselves desire, whereas there has surely come to them the Guidance from their Lord! 23 Does man imagine that it is his due to have all that he might wish for, 24 But it is to God that the Hereafter and this world belong. 25
