The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ WHEN THAT which must come to pass [at last] comes to pass, 1 And there can be no denying of its befalling. 2 (Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt; 3 when the earth shall be rocked 4 and the mountains are shattered into [countless] shards, 5 So that they become a scattered dust, 6 you shall be divided into three parties, 7 So those on the Right Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Records in their right hands), Who will be those on the Right Hand? (As a respect for them, because they will enter Paradise). 8 And those on the left hand; how miserable shall those on the left hand be! 9 And the Outstrippers, the Outstrippers 10 These will be those Nearest to Allah: 11 In gardens of delight; 12 A multitude of those of old 13 but only a few from the later generations. 14 On couches wrought of gold, 15 they shall recline, facing each other, 16 immortal youths shall go about them 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of pure drink; 18 Wherefrom they get no aching of the head nor any madness, 19 And fruits such as they choose, 20 and the meat of any bird that they may desire; 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 as the likeness of hidden pearls, 23 [And this will be] a reward for what they did [in life]. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk nor any sinful speech. 25 Except the saying, “Peace, peace.” 26 The Companions of the Right Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 27 They shall be in the midst of thornless lote trees, 28 And acacia covered with heaps of bloom, 29 and shade extended, 30 And water flowing constantly, 31 and abundant fruits, 32 Whose season is not limited, and their supply will not be cut off, 33 And couches raised up. 34 and their spouses We shall have brought them into being afresh, 35 Then We have made them virgins, 36 Lovers, friends, 37 for the people of the right hand 38
