The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
O YOU ENFOLDED in your mantle (of reform), 1 arise and warn, 2 And thy Sustainer's greatness glorify! 3 Purify your inner self, 4 And uncleanliness avoid 5 And show not favour, seeking wordly gain! 6 And for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 When the Trumpet shall be sounded, 8 That will be- that Day - a Day of Distress,- 9 for the unbelievers not easy. 10 Leave Me alone with he whom I created 11 and whom I have granted abundant wealth 12 and sons to be by his side, 13 I made things smooth and easy for him, 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give him even more! 15 Nay! For lo! he hath been stubborn to Our revelations. 16 I shall force him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 He reflected and then hatched a scheme. 18 And woe to him! How he plotted!- 19 Let him be destroyed. How he calculated! 20 and then he looks [around for new arguments,] 21 Then he frowned and he scowled; 22 then he retreated, and waxed proud. 23 and says, "All this is mere spellbinding eloquence handed down [from olden times]! 24 this is nothing but the word of a mere mortal!” 25 Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire! 26 And what can make you know what is Saqar? 27 It leaves nothing, nor does it spare; 28 It strips away the hide of man. 29 Over it are nineteen. 30 And We have not made the keepers of the Fire except angels. And We have not made their number except as a trial for those who disbelieve - that those who were given the Scripture will be convinced and those who have believed will increase in faith and those who were given the Scripture and the believers will not doubt and that those in whose hearts is hypocrisy and the disbelievers will say, "What does Allah intend by this as an example?" Thus does Allah leave astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none knows the soldiers of your Lord except Him. And mention of the Fire is not but a reminder to humanity. 31
