The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Has there [not] come upon man a period of time when he was not a thing [even] mentioned? 1 Lo! We create man from a drop of thickened fluid to test him; so We make him hearing, knowing. 2 Indeed, We guided him to the way, be he grateful or be he ungrateful. 3 Verily, We have prepared for the disbelievers iron chains, iron collars, and a blazing Fire. 4 The virtuous shall drink from a cup tempered with camphor water. 5 A fountain from which the servants of Allah shall drink; they make it to flow a (goodly) flowing forth. 6 They fulfil their vows, and fear a day whose evil is upon the wing; 7 And feed with food the needy wretch, the orphan and the prisoner, for love of Him, 8 [Saying], "We feed you only for the countenance of Allah. We wish not from you reward or gratitude. 9 We are afraid of our Lord and the bitterly distressful day". 10 So God will protect them from the evil of that day, and grant them happiness and joy, 11 and will reward them for all their patience in adversity with a garden [of bliss] and with [garments of] silk. 12 Reclining there upon couches, they shall see neither the sun nor the moon. 13 The shades of Paradise will bend over them, and its fruits will be brought within their easy reach; 14 Goblets of silver are brought round for them, and beakers (as) of glass 15 (Bright as) glass but (made) of silver, which they (themselves) have measured to the measure (of their deeds). 16 And therein they shall be given to drink of a cup whereof the admixture will be ginger. 17 (The water of) a spring therein, named Salsabil. 18 ۞ There wait on them immortal youths, whom, when thou seest, thou wouldst take for scattered pearls. 19 Whitherto you look around, you will see an abundance of bliss and the glories of a great kingdom. 20 Upon them shall be green garments of silk and brocade; they are adorned with bracelets of silver, and their Lord shall give them to drink a pure draught. 21 "This in truth is your recompense, and acceptance of your endeavours." 22
