The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Someone has (needlessly) demanded to experience the torment (of God), 1 for the unbelievers, which none may avert, 2 (A punishment) from Allah, the Owner of the Elevated Passages. 3 The angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him during a Day the extent of which is fifty thousand years. 4 So persevere with becoming patience. 5 behold, men look upon that [reckoning] as something far away 6 Whereas We see it impending. 7 Upon the day when heaven shall be as molten copper 8 And the mountains shall be as tufts of wool 9 No loyal friend will ask another loyal friend 10 Though they will be put in sight of each other,- the sinner's desire will be: Would that he could redeem himself from the Penalty of that Day by (sacrificing) his children, 11 And his wife and his brother. 12 the kinsmen who gave him shelter, 13 and whosoever is in the earth, altogether, so that it might save him. 14 By no means! For the raging flames of the fire 15 Dragging by the head, 16 It shall insistently summon him who turned his back and retreated, 17 And masseth and then hoardeth. 18 ۞ VERILY, man is born with a restless disposition. 19 Fretful when evil befalleth him 20 And niggardly when good befalls him 21 except those that pray 22 Who are constant at their worship 23 And in whose wealth there is a right acknowledged 24 for the impoverished nonrequester and the requester, 25 And those who believe the Day of Judgement to be true. 26 and who stand in dread of their Sustainer's chastisement 27 Surely the chastisement of their Lord is (a thing) not to be felt secure of-- 28 those who preserve their chastity 29 Save in regard to their spouses or those whom their right hands own; so verily they are not blameworthy 30 But whosoever seeks beyond that, then it is those who are trespassers. 31 And those who fulfil their trusts and covenants, 32 who testify to what they have witnessed, 33 And those who guard (the sacredness) of their worship;- 34 They will live in gardens with honour. 35
