[AND] the people of Lot gave the lie to [one of God's] message-bearers 160 when their brother Lot said to them, 'Will you not be godfearing? 161 I am a trustworthy messenger to you: 162 So fear God and listen to me. 163 "And no reward whatever do I ask of you for it: my reward rests with none but the Sustainer of all the worlds. 164 "Must you, of all people, [lustfully] approach men, 165 And leave the wives your Lord created for you? Nay, but ye are froward folk. 166 They said, "If you do not desist, O Lot, you will surely be of those evicted." 167 He said: "I am one of those who abhor your practice. 168 “My Lord, rescue me and my family from their deeds.” 169 Then We delivered him and all his family 170 all but an old woman, who was among those that stayed behind; 171 We then destroyed the others. 172 And We rained down upon them a rain, and evil was the rain on those warned. 173 Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers. 174 Verily Your Lord is Immensely Mighty, Most Compassionate. 175
