The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ When the Terror descends 1 And there can be no denying of its befalling. 2 Degrading (some) and exalting (others); 3 When the earth is shaken with convulsion 4 and the mountains fragmented 5 Turned to dust, floating in the air, 6 On that day, you (mankind) will be divided into three groups: 7 Companions of the Right, what are the Companions of the Right? 8 And those on the Left Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Record in their left hands), Who will be those on the Left Hand? (As a disgrace for them, because they will enter Hell). 9 And the forerunners, the forerunners - 10 These will be those Nearest to Allah: 11 In the gardens of bliss. 12 A multitude of those (foremost) will be from the first generations (who embraced Islam). 13 but only a few from the later generations. 14 On thrones decorated, 15 they shall recline, facing each other, 16 There shall go round unto them youths ever-young. 17 With vessels, pitchers and a cup [of wine] from a flowing spring - 18 No after-ache will they receive therefrom, nor will they suffer intoxication: 19 Also, they will be served with the fruits of their choice 20 And the meat of fowl, from whatever they desire. 21 And [with them will be their] companions pure, most beautiful of eye, 22 like unto pearls [still] hidden in their shells. 23 All this shall be theirs as a reward for their deeds. 24 They will not hear therein ill speech or commission of sin - 25 only the words of peace and tranquillity. 26 The Companions of the Right Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 27 Amid thornless lote-trees, 28 and acacias flower-clad, 29 In shade long-extended, 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 And fruit abundant. 32 Whose season is not limited, nor (supply) forbidden, 33 And raised couches. 34 Indeed We formed them (the houris and all believing women), 35 And made them virginal, 36 Devoted [to their husbands] and of equal age, 37 For those on the Right Hand. 38
