He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 And he feareth 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance. 12 (This Quran) is also recorded in honorable books, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and let the earth to break open 26 And produce therein corn, 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 olives, dates, 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 And some faces will on that Day with dust be covered, 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
