۞ (It will be said to the angels): "Assemble those who did wrong, together with their companions (from the devils) and what they used to worship. 22 apart from God, and guide them unto the path of Hell! 23 “And stop them they are to be questioned.” 24 “What is the matter with you, that you do not help one another?” 25 They will submit to questioning then, 26 but [since it will be too late,] they will turn upon one another, demanding of each other [to relieve them of the burden of their past sins]. 27 Saying: "It were you who imposed yourselves upon us." 28 They will answer, “You yourselves did not have faith!” 29 And we had no authority over you, but you were an inordinate people; 30 "So now the Word of our Lord has been justified against us, that we shall certainly (have to) taste (the torment). 31 "So we led you astray because we were ourselves astray." 32 So indeed they, that Day, will be sharing in the punishment. 33 Verily, thus shall We deal with all who were lost in sin: 34 For when it was said to them: 'There is no god except Allah' they were always proud 35 And were saying, "Are we to leave our gods for a mad poet?" 36 Rather, the Prophet has come with the truth and confirmed the [previous] messengers. 37 Most surely you will taste the painful punishment. 38 Ye are requited naught save what ye did - 39 Except the chosen creatures of God, 40 For them there will be a known provision (in Paradise). 41 fruits of various kinds; and they shall be honoured, 42 in the Gardens of Bliss. 43 Facing each other on Thrones (of Dignity): 44 A drink will be passed round among them from a flowing spring: 45 white, a delight to the drinkers, 46 Wherein there is no headache nor are they made mad thereby. 47 And besides them will be chaste women, restraining their glances, with big eyes (of wonder and beauty). 48 As if they were [delicate] eggs, well-protected. 49 They will turn to one another with questions: 50 One of them will say: “I had a companion in the world 51 'Do you believe in the Day of Judgment? 52 Shall we be recompensed for our deeds after we die and become bones and dust? 53 He saith: Will ye look? 54 Then he looks, and sees him in the midst of Hell. 55 He will say to him: -- By Allah, you almost ruined me. 56 And but for the favour of my lord, I should have been of those brought forward. 57 Then he will say [to his blessed companions], "Are we not going to die, 58 [again,] beyond our previous death, and that we shall never [again] be made to suffer? 59 Indeed, this is the great attainment. 60 for the like of this let the workers work.' 61 Is this better as an entertainment or the tree of Zaqqum? 62 We have made this (tree) a trial for the evildoers. 63 (Zaqqum) is a tree which grows from the deepest part of hell, 64 Its spathes are like the heads of satans. 65 So indeed they will eat from it, and fill their bellies with it. 66 then on top of it they have a brew of boiling water, 67 Then shall their return be to the (Blazing) Fire. 68 These are the ones who found their fathers steeped in error, 69 so they are rushing to follow in their footsteps. 70 And assuredly there went stray before them many of the ancients. 71 And certainly We sent among them warners. 72 and behold what happened in the end to those that had been warned [to no avail]! 73 except the sincere worshipers of Allah. 74
