The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ About what are they asking one another? 1 About the great tidings! 2 whereupon they are at variance? 3 No! They are going to know. 4 Nay! Nay! they shall soon know. 5 Have We not made the earth as a cradle 6 and the mountains as pegs? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 And We have made your sleep as a rest. 9 And have appointed the night as a cloak, 10 and the day as time for you to make a living? 11 And (have We not) built over you the seven firmaments, 12 and placed in them a blazing lamp 13 And We sent down rain from water-laden clouds pouring in torrents 14 so that We may bring forth thereby grain and a variety of plants, 15 And orchards full of trees and interlacing boughs. 16 Verily the Day of Sorting out is a thing appointed, 17 The Day the Horn is blown and you will come forth in multitudes 18 The heavens will have openings like doors. 19 and the mountains move, and vaporize. 20 Hell will lie in wait (for its prey). 21 The destination of the rebellious. 22 In which they will remain for ages [unending]. 23 tasting neither coolness nor any drink 24 save boiling water and wash of the wounds; 25 A fitting recompense (for them). 26 for they never expected to be called to account, 27 having given the lie to Our messages one and all: 28 And We have recorded everything in a book, 29 "So taste [the penalty], and never will We increase you except in torment." 30
