He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 when the blind came to him. 2 But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 And whereas he fears, 9 Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 (This Quran) is also recorded in honorable books, 13 Exalted and purified, 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. 23 Then let mankind look at his food - 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 And We made corn grow, 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 and his mother and his father; 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 laughing and joyous 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
