We created mankind from clay, molded from mud, 26 and before him We created the jinn from smokeless fire. 27 Your Lord said to the angels, "I am about to bring into being a man wrought from mud. 28 So when I have made him complete and breathed into him of My spirit, fall down making obeisance to him. 29 So, the angels - all of them - fell down in prostration, 30 Except Iblis (Satan); he refused to be among those who prostrated. 31 [Allah] said, O Iblees, what is [the matter] with you that you are not with those who prostrate?" 32 He said, "Never would I prostrate to a human whom You created out of clay from an altered black mud." 33 "Go hence, execrable," (said the Lord), "from this place, 34 Condemned till the day of Doom!" 35 Said he, 'My Lord, respite me till the day they shall be raised.' 36 Allah said: "For sure you are granted respite 37 till the appointed time. 38 Said he, 'My Lord, for Thy perverting me I shall deck all fair to them in the earth, and I shall pervert them, all together, 39 "Except Thy servants among them, sincere and purified (by Thy Grace)." 40 God said, "The path which leads to Me is a straight 41 No power shall you have over (all) My creatures except those who fall into error and follow you, 42 And lo! for all such, hell will be the promised place. 43 Seven gates it has, and unto each gate a set portion of them belongs.' 44
