۞ To Abraham We gave the right guidance and We knew him very well. 51 When he said to his father and his people, "What are these statues to which you are devoted?" 52 They said: We found our fathers worshippers of them. 53 He said: "You and your fathers were in clear error." 54 They said: hast thou come unto us with the truth, or art thou of those who sport? 55 Abraham replied, "Your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, who created them, and I bear witness to that. 56 "And by Allah, I have a plan for your idols - after ye go away and turn your backs".. 57 And then he broke those [idols] to pieces, [all] save the biggest of them, so that they might [be able to] turn to it. 58 'Who has done this to our gods' they exclaimed. 'He must surely be a harmdoer' 59 They said: We heard a youth speak of them, who is called Ibrahim. 60 They said: "Then bring him before the eyes of the people, that they may testify." 61 They said, “Did you do this to our Gods, O Ibrahim?” 62 [Ibrahim (Abraham)] said: "Nay, this one, the biggest of them (idols) did it. Ask them, if they can speak!" 63 So they turned to themselves and said: "Verily, you are the Zalimun (polytheists and wrong-doers)." 64 Then their minds were turned upside down, and they said: "You know well that they do not speak." 65 (So Abraham) said: "Then why do you worship something apart from God that cannot profit you or do you harm? 66 "Fie upon you, and upon the things that ye worship besides Allah! Have ye no sense?".. 67 They exclaimed: "Burn him, and [thereby] succour your gods, if you are going to do [anything]!" 68 But We said, "Fire! Be cool and a means of safety for Abraham." 69 They desired to outwit him; so We made them the worse losers, 70 And We delivered him and Lut to the land wherein We had placed Our blessings for the worlds. 71 And We gave him Isaac and Jacob in addition, and all [of them] We made righteous. 72 And We made them leaders, guiding (men) by Our Command, and We sent them inspiration to do good deeds, to establish regular prayers, and to practise regular charity; and they constantly served Us (and Us only). 73 To Lot We gave knowledge and wisdom and saved him from the people of the town who were committing indecent acts. They were certainly a bad and sinful people. 74 We encompassed him in Our mercy; he was a righteous man. 75
