The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O THOU [in thy solitude] enfolded! 1 Arise, and warn. 2 And your Lord do magnify, 3 thy robes purify 4 and flee from the statues! 5 And do not confer favor to acquire more 6 be patient unto your Lord. 7 For when the trumpet is sounded, 8 that day will be a harsh day, 9 For the disbelievers - not easy. 10 Leave Me alone, (to deal) with the (creature) whom I created (bare and) alone!- 11 and to whom I have granted resources in abundance, 12 and sons to be by his side, 13 To whom I made (life) smooth and comfortable! 14 Yet he wants that I should give him more. 15 By no means! He has been stubbornly hostile to Our revelation: 16 I will make a distressing punishment overtake him. 17 For he thought and he plotted -- 18 and thus he destroys himself, the way he meditates: 19 Let him be destroyed. How he calculated! 20 and then he looks [around for new arguments,] 21 frowned and scowled, 22 and in the end he turns his back [on Our message,] and glories in his arrogance, 23 Then he said: naught is this but magic from of old; 24 “This is nothing but the speech of a man.” 25 Anon shall I roast him into the Scorching Fire. 26 And what will make you realize what hell is? 27 Naught doth it permit to endure, and naught doth it leave alone!- 28 It shrivelleth the man. 29 Over it are nineteen [angels]. 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
