Jinns (Al-Jinn)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Say, (O Prophet), it was revealed to me that a band of jinn attentively listened to (the recitation of the Qur'an) and then (went back to their people) and said: “We have indeed heard a wonderful Qur'an" 1 guiding to rectitude. We believe in it, and we will not associate with our Lord anyone. 2 'And exalted be the Majesty of our Lord, He has taken neither a wife, nor a son (or offspring or children). 3 And [now we know] that the foolish among us have been saying outrageous things about God. 4 'And verily, we thought that men and jinns would not utter a lie against Allah. 5 But there were certain men of mankind who would take refuge with certain men of the jinn, and they increased them in vileness, 6 Those people thought, like you, that God would never send down a Messenger. 7 We sought to reach heaven, but found it filled with strong guards and flames -- 8 And we used to sit therein in positions for hearing, but whoever listens now will find a burning flame lying in wait for him. 9 'And we understand not whether ill is intended to those on earth, or whether their Lord (really) intends to guide them to right conduct. 10 And among us are the righteous, and among us are [others] not so; we were [of] divided ways. 11 ‘And we are certain that we cannot defeat Allah in the earth, nor can we run out of His grasp.’ 12 When we heard the guidance, we believed in it; and whosoever believes in his Lord, he shall fear neither paltriness nor vileness. 13 "'Yet [it is true] that among us are such as have surrendered themselves to God - just as there are among us such as have abandoned themselves to wrongdoing. Now as for those who surrender themselves to Him - it is they that have attained to consciousness of what is right; 14 And as for the deviators, for Hell they shall be fuel. 15 And that if they should keep to the (right) way, We would certainly give them to drink of abundant water, 16 So that We might try them with respect to it; and whoever turns aside from the reminder of his Lord, He will make him enter into an afflicting chastisement: 17 The mosques are for God's worship -- so do not invoke anyone else along with God -- 18 And that when the servant of Allah stood up calling upon Him, they wellnigh crowded him (to death). 19
