The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
READ in the name of thy Sustainer, who has created 1 Createth man from a clot. 2 Read - for thy Sustainer is the Most Bountiful One 3 who has taught [man] the use of the pen 4 taught man what he did not know. 5 By no means: Verily man exorbitateth. 6 because he thinks himself self-sufficient: 7 Surely to your Lord is the return. 8 What is your opinion – regarding him who forbids – 9 a servant of Ours from prayer? 10 What will happen if the praying person is rightly guided 11 Or enjoins piety? 12 Have you considered if he gives the lie to the truth and turns (his) back? 13 Does he not know that Allah sees everything? 14 Nay! If he (Abu Jahl) ceases not, We will catch him by the forelock, 15 A lying, sinful forelock! 16 Then, let him call his assembly, 17 We shall summon the guards of Hell. 18 Nay, Obey not thou him. But prostrate thyself, and draw near (unto Allah). ۩ 19
