Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
O thou folded in garments! 1 worship (God) for a few hours at night. 2 half the night, or a little less 3 Or a little more; and recite the Quran (aloud) in a slow, (pleasant tone and) style. 4 Indeed, We will cast upon you a heavy word. 5 Verily, the rising by night (for Tahajjud prayer) is very hard and most potent and good for governing (the soul), and most suitable for (understanding) the Word (of Allah). 6 Indeed during the day you have a long schedule of occupations. 7 So remember the name of thy Lord and devote thyself with a complete devotion - 8 (He is) Lord of the East and the West: there is no god but He: take Him therefore for (thy) Disposer of Affairs. 9 And have patience with what they say, and leave them with noble (dignity). 10 And leave Me and the rejecters, the possessors of ease and plenty, and respite them a little. 11 Lo! with Us are heavy fetters and a raging fire, 12 And food that chokes and a painful punishment - 13 On the day when the earth and the mountains shall quake and the mountains shall become (as) heaps of sand let loose. 14 Surely We have sent to you a Messenger as a witness over you, just as We had sent a Messenger to Pharaoh. 15 But Pharaoh rebelled against the messenger, whereupon We seized him with no gentle grip. 16 How, then, if you refuse to acknowledge the truth, will you protect yourselves on that Day which shall turn the hair of children grey, 17 the Day whose severity shall cause the heaven to split asunder? Allah's promise is ever bound to be fulfilled. 18 Verily, this is an admonition, therefore whosoever will, let him take a Path to His Lord! 19
