Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Certainly the news of the calamity that will overwhelm has come to you! 1 (Some) faces on that day shall be downcast, 2 labouring, toilworn, 3 they shall burn in a Scorching Fire; 4 watered at a boiling fountain, 5 no food for them except thorny plants 6 that will neither nourish nor satisfy their hunger. 7 In that day other faces will be calm, 8 Well-pleased with their endeavour, 9 In the high empyrean, 10 In which they will not hear any lewd speech. 11 Wherein is a gushing spring, 12 And within it are couches placed on high, 13 Goblets set, 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 and well spread carpets. 16 So do they not see the camel – how it has been created? 17 And the sky: how it was raised high? 18 And at the mountains, how they are rooted? 19 And at the earth - how it is spread out? 20 Therefore remind, you are only a Reminder. 21 You are not a watcher over them; 22 As for those who turn their back and disbelieve, 23 God shall chastise him with the greatest chastisement. 24 Truly, to Us is their return; 25 and verily, It is for Us to call them to account. 26
