Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By oath of the (particular) dawn. 1 and the ten nights, 2 And the Even and the Odd, 3 And the night when it departs. 4 Is there not an evidence in this for those who have sense? 5 Have you not seen what your Lord did to the 'Ad 6 The people of many-columned lram. 7 The like of which was not built in the cities, 8 (Also consider how He dealt with) the Thamud, who carved their houses out of the rocks in the valley. 9 and Pharaoh, he of the tent-pegs, 10 Who (all) were rebellious (to Allah) in these lands, 11 and worked much corruption therein? 12 Thus, your Lord afflicted them with torment; 13 Verily thy Lord is in an ambuscade, 14 As for man, whenever his Lord trieth him by honouring him, and is gracious unto him, he saith: My Lord honoureth me. 15 And when He proveth him, and so stinteth unto him his provision, he saith: 'my Lord hath despised me. 16 No! But you do not honor the orphan 17 And urge not on the feeding of AlMiskin (the poor)! 18 and you devour the inheritance [of others] with devouring greed, 19 And you love wealth with immense love. 20 Surely when We pound the earth to powder grounded, pounded to dust, 21 And your Lord comes and (also) the angels in ranks, 22 And on that Day hell will be brought [within sight]; on that Day man will remember [all that he did and failed to do]: but what will that remembrance avail him? 23 He will say: "Ah! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my (Future) Life!" 24 On that day the punishment of God and His detention will be unparalleled. 25 none shall bind as He binds. 26 Serene soul, 27 "Come back to your Lord, Well-pleased (yourself) and well-pleasing unto Him! 28 Enter thou among My righteous bondmen! 29 enter My Paradise! 30
