The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the Night as it conceals (the light); 1 and the day as it rises bright! 2 By Him Who hath created the male and the female, 3 Lo! your effort is dispersed (toward divers ends). 4 Thus, as for him who gives [to others] and is conscious of God, 5 And (in all sincerity) testifies to the best,- 6 for him shall We make easy the path towards [ultimate] ease. 7 But he who is a greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient, 8 and denied the Truth of goodness: 9 We will indeed make smooth for him the path to Misery; 10 When he falls (into Hell), his wealth will not help him. 11 Indeed, Guidance is Ours, 12 And verify Ours is both the Hereafter and the life present. 13 and so I warn you of the raging fire 14 in which no one will suffer forever except the wicked ones 15 who gives the lie to the truth and turns away [from it]. 16 and from which the most godfearing shall be removed, 17 And gives of his wealth that he may grow in virtue, 18 And have in his mind no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return, 19 Except the seeking of the pleasure of his Lord, the Most High. 20 And presently he shall become well pleased. 21
