A 'araaf (Al-A 'araaf)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ Alif. Lam. Mim. Sad. 1 A Book revealed to you-- so let there be no straitness in your breast on account of it-- that you may warn thereby, and a reminder close to the believers. 2 Follow what has been sent down to you by your Lord and do not follow any protector other than Him. How seldom you take heed. 3 And many a township did We destroy – so Our punishment came to them at night or while they were sleeping at noon. 4 And when Our punishment overtook them they had nothing to say except crying out: "We have indeed been sinners." 5 Then shall we question those to whom Our message was sent and those by whom We sent it. 6 Then most certainly We will relate to them with knowledge, and We were not absent. 7 Truth alone will be of weight that Day. Those whose scales are heavy shall be successful, 8 And those whose scales are light - they are the ones who will lose themselves for what injustice they were doing toward Our verses. 9 YEA, INDEED, [O men,] We have given you a [bountiful] place on earth, and appointed thereon means of livelihood for you: [yet] how seldom are you grateful! 10
