He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 you attended to him, 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 and who has fear of God, 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 most exalted and purified, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 noble, pious. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 then eased his path for him, 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 on that Day, to every one of them will his own state be of sufficient concern. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 but others will be gloomy 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
