Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Ha'. Mim. 1 I swear by the Book that makes manifest (the truth). 2 Verily We have sent it down on a blessed night, verily We were to become warners. 3 on that night every wise decree is specified 4 by Our own command -- We have been sending messages, 5 As Mercy from thy Lord: for He hears and knows (all things); 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all between them, if ye (but) have an assured faith. 7 There is no Allah save Him. He quickeneth and giveth death; your Lord and Lord of your forefathers. 8 Rather they are in doubt, playing. 9 Wait for the day (which will come before the Day of Judgment) when the sky will give out dense smoke 10 covering the people; this is a painful chastisement. 11 Our Lord! remove from us the punishment; surely we are believers. 12 How could this punishment bring them to their senses when a Messenger evidently had come to them, 13 Yet they turn away from him and say: "Tutored (by others), a man possessed!" 14 Verily We shall remove the torment for a while; but verily ye shall revert. 15 However, We shall truly take Our revenge on the day when the great seizure takes place. 16 ۞ We had tried the people of Pharaoh before them. A respected prophet had come to them (saying): 17 "Deliver the creatures of God to me. I am the trusted messenger sent to you. 18 And saying: Be not proud against Allah. Lo! I bring you a clear warrant. 19 and, behold, it is with my Sustainer - and your Sustainer - that I seek refuge against all your endeavours to revile me. 20 If you do not believe in me, at least keep away from me." 21 And he cried unto his Lord, (saying): These are guilty folk. 22 So depart thou with My bondmen by night; verily ye shall be pursued. 23 And leave the sea intervening; surely they are a host that shall be drowned. 24 How many gardens and fountains did they leave behind, 25 And crops and noble sites 26 and [all that] life of ease in which they used to delight! 27 Thus it was; and We made another people inherit all that. 28 And the heavens and the earth wept not over them, nor were they respited. 29
