The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the inevitable event takes place, 1 and there can be no denying its happening, 2 The event will be abasing some, and exalting some. 3 When the earth is violently shaken 4 And the mountains are crumbled, crumbled. 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 And you become [of] three kinds: 7 Then (there will be) the Companions of the Right Hand;- What will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 8 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 9 And the preceders are the preceders. 10 These are they who are drawn nigh (to Allah), 11 In gardens of delight; 12 A number of the earlier peoples, 13 And a few from among the latter. 14 on lavish couches 15 reclining on them facing each other; 16 Round about them will (serve) youths of perpetual (freshness), 17 with goblets, and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 No after-ache will they receive therefrom, nor will they suffer intoxication: 19 And fruit that they prefer 20 and any flesh of fowl that they desire. 21 And (there will be) Houris (fair females) with wide, lovely eyes (as wives for the pious), 22 The likenesses of pearls well-protected, 23 The reward for what they did. 24 No empty talk will they hear there, nor any call to sin, 25 Except the saying, “Peace, peace.” 26 And the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 27 (They will be) among Lote-trees without thorns, 28 And plantains laden with fruit. 29 In shade long-extended, 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 And plenty of fruits. 32 unfailing, unforbidden, 33 And on Thrones (of Dignity), raised high. 34 and the noble maidens that We have created 35 And made them virgins, 36 Loving, of equal age. 37 For those on the right hand; 38
