Surely We created man of a clay of mud moulded, 26 and the jinn We had created before from flaming fire. 27 Your Lord said to the angels, "I am about to bring into being a man wrought from mud. 28 And when I have fashioned him and breathed into him of My spirit, bow before him in homage;" 29 So the angels prostrated themselves, all of them together. 30 But Satan did not; he refused to join those who prostrated themselves. 31 Said He: "O Iblis! What is thy reason for not being among those who have prostrated themselves?" 32 He said: "It does not behove of me to prostrate myself before a human being whom You have created out of dry ringing clay wrought from black mud." 33 The Lord said: "Then get out of here; you are rejected, 34 "And the curse shall be on thee till the day of Judgment." 35 [Iblis (Satan)] said: "O my Lord! Give me then respite till the Day they (the dead) will be resurrected." 36 He said: Then lo! thou art of those reprieved 37 unto the day of a known time.' 38 Said he, 'My Lord, for Thy perverting me I shall deck all fair to them in the earth, and I shall pervert them, all together, 39 except those of Your servants whom You have singled out for Yourself." 40 He said: This is a right course incumbent upon Me: 41 Surely, you shall have no power over My true servants, except those misguided ones who choose to follow you. 42 Surely Hell is the promised place for all of them." 43 Seven gates it has, and unto each gate a set portion of them belongs.' 44
