Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Ha. Mim. 1 By the Clear Book 2 Indeed, We sent it down during a blessed night. Indeed, We were to warn [mankind]. 3 (We revealed it on the Night) wherein every matter is wisely determined 4 A command from Us; surely We are the senders (of apostles), 5 as a mercy from thy Lord (surely He is the All-hearing, the All-knowing) 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and what is between them, if you would be sure. 7 La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He). It is He Who gives life and causes death, your Lord and the Lord of your fore-fathers. 8 But they are in doubt, amusing themselves. 9 So wait thou the day whereon the heaven will bring forth a manifest smoke: 10 enveloping people. That will be a grievous scourge. 11 (Then they will say): Our Lord relieve us of the torment. Lo! we are believers. 12 How can there be for them an admonition (at the time when the torment has reached them), when a Messenger explaining things clearly has already come to them. 13 But they turned away from him, and said: "He is well-instructed, (but) possessed." 14 Were We to ease the torment for a while, you would still revert to denial of the truth. 15 However, We shall truly take Our revenge on the day when the great seizure takes place. 16 ۞ And indeed We tried before them Fir'aun's (Pharaoh) people, when there came to them a noble Messenger [i.e. Musa (Moses)], 17 saying, 'Deliver to me God's servants; I am for you a faithful Messenger, 18 Do not think yourselves to be above God: I have come to you with clear authority. 19 “And I take the refuge of my Lord and yours, against your stoning me.” 20 “And if you do not believe in me, then have no relation with me.” 21 Then he cried out to his Lord, "These are sinful people." 22 'Then set thou forth with My servants in a watch of the night; surely you will be followed. 23 "And leave the sea as it is (quiet and divided). Verily, They are a host to be drowned." 24 How many gardens and water-springs they left behind! 25 And green crops (fields etc.) and goodly places, 26 And goodly things wherein they rejoiced; 27 Even so (it was), and We made it an inheritance for other folk; 28 Neither heaven nor earth wept for them, nor were they respited; 29
