He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 And what do you know, he may be of the pure! 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 and in awe of God 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 These verses are a reminder 11 and so, whoever is willing may remember Him 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 And olives and palms 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 and fruits and fodder 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 and from his mother and father, 35 wife and sons, 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
