The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
I swear by the night when it draws a veil, 1 and by the day when it breaks in its glory, 2 And the creating of the male and the female, 3 you strive in various ways. 4 Thus, as for him who gives [to others] and is conscious of God, 5 and affirmed the Truth of goodness: 6 Surely We will ease his way unto the state of ease. 7 But he who does not give and is unconcerned, 8 And denies the best [reward], 9 We will ease him toward difficulty. 10 Nor will his wealth profit him when he falls headlong (into the Pit). 11 Truly! Ours it is (to give) guidance, 12 And indeed the Hereafter and this world both belong to Us. 13 Therefore do I warn you of a Fire blazing fiercely; 14 None will [enter to] burn therein except the most wretched one. 15 Who give the lie to Truth and turn their backs. 16 Far removed from it will be the righteous 17 Who gives away his wealth, purifying himself 18 and owes no favour to anyone, which is to be repaid, 19 But only seeking the countenance of his Lord, Most High. 20 He will surely be well-pleased (with him). 21
