The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the event befalleth - 1 There is, at its occurrence, no denial. 2 (it will) abase (some) and exalt (others). 3 When the earth is shaken up convulsively, 4 And the mountains will be powdered to dust. 5 And become dust dispersing. 6 And you will become divided into three categories. 7 Then (as to) the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 8 Then those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) will be those of the left hand! 9 And those who surpassed have indeed excelled. 10 They shall be the nearest to God. 11 In the gardens of bliss. 12 A [large] company of the former peoples 13 And a few from the latter. 14 Seated on couches wrought in gold and encrusted with precious stones, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 immortal youths shall go about them 17 With bowls and ewers and a cup from a pure spring 18 They shall not be affected with headache thereby, nor shall they get exhausted, 19 And fruit of what they select 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire to eat; 21 and there shall be wide-eyed maidens, 22 Like pearls within their shells, 23 As recompense for all they had done. 24 They will not hear therein ill speech or commission of sin - 25 But only the saying of: Salam!, Salam! (greetings with peace)! 26 Those on the Right, how fortunate are those on the Right! 27 (They will be) among Lote-trees without thorns, 28 And acacia covered with heaps of bloom, 29 and amid the extended shade 30 near to flowing water 31 And abundant fruit, 32 undiminished and never denied 33 And raised couches. 34 Perfectly We formed them, perfect, 35 having resurrected them as virgins, 36 chastely amorous, 37 like of age for the Companions of the Right. 38
