The Town (Al-Balad)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ Nay! I swear by this city. 1 – this city wherein you have been rendered violable– 2 or by the great father and his wonderful son (Abraham and Ishmael) 3 Assuredly We have created man in trouble. 4 Does he, then, think that no one has power over him? 5 He will say: 'I have destroyed a vast wealth' 6 Does he think that no one has seen him? 7 Did We not give him two eyes, 8 And a tongue and a pair of lips? 9 Have We not shown him the ways of good and evil? 10 But he has not attempted the ascent. 11 What could let you know what the height is! 12 The freeing of a slave! 13 Or the giving of food in a day of hunger 14 to an orphan near of kin 15 or some needy person in distress, 16 then that he become of those who believe and counsel each other to be steadfast, and counsel each other to be merciful. 17 These are the people of the right. 18 As for those who disbelieve in Our revelations, they are the people of the left 19 and the Fire will close in on them. 20
